   Business Math & Computers

Business Math is a fun and exciting course at La Mesa.  One of our main projects this semester will be playing the "Stock Market Game." This exciting game is part of the Stock Market Game and we are proud to have Merrill-Lynch as our sponsor. The Stock Market game is celebrating it's 32nd year! The Stock Market Gameā„¢ (SMG) gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an on-line portfolio. They think they're playing a game. You know they're learning economic and financial concepts they'll use for the rest of their lives.  Students also will have the opportunity to participate in "Invest-Write," a  writing competition created to reinforce students critical thinking skills.

A big "Thank you" to Merrill Lynch for sponsoring the

Students will be working in groups of four and will also practice team building and team decision making skill. Research skills, consumer finance, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point will also be integrated into the game. Writing will be reinforced using the "Six Traits of Writing," which is one of our goals at La Mesa this school year. Math skills along with Algebra I skills will all be reinforced with The Stock Market Game.

Please ask your student to share their portfolio with you at home. I am very proud of the students at La Mesa because over the past four years La Mesa has placed in the top ten in California!

Class Requirements:

1.  Each student will be required to keep a notebook and complete all class and homework assignments.  Textbooks are to remain in class but can be checked out on an individual basis but must be returned the next morning before class.
