Weeks One, Two and Three
Introduction to Computers, Internet and Search Engines. Review of basic math skills. Introduce"The Stock Market Game.Org." Students will learn what a stock is, how the market operates and associated vocabulary. Keyboarding Lessons 1.1-1.5
Weeks Four, Five and Six
Begin Word 2000 Basics: Creating a document, menus and toolbars, text entry, word wrap and basic editing. Students will select their stock market groups and begin live trading. Students will also learn basic job applications, payroll and reinforcement of basic math and reading skills. Begin discussions on what events cause the markets go up and down. Keyboarding Lessons 1.5-1.10
Weeks Seven, Eight and Nine
Aligning text, using fonts, setting margins, tabs, bullets and numbers. Continue stock trading. Begin learning how to read graphs, stock reports and on line financial reports as it relates to their stock purchases. Students will learn about federal, state and local payroll taxes. Reading and writing strategies will be introduced on how to read and comprehend business facts. Students will begin to create a job resume. Keyboarding Lessons 1.13-1.20
Weeks Ten, Eleven and Twelve
Desktop Publishing: Introduce letter of applications and personal business letters. Students will write a personal business letter to each of their stock companies requesting information. Continue with math, reading and keyboarding skill reinforcement. Introduce banking services, checking and savings accounts, electronic banking, account reconciliations. Continue stock trading.
Weeks Thirteen, Fourteen and Fifteen
Continue stock trading. Reading, math and keyboard reinforcement skills will continue. Students will learn the proper way of spending money wisely, how to make wise purchasing choices and the ups and downs of credit. Other types of investments will also be introduced. Students will be introduced to single and multipage reports. Students will be required to write at least 3 one page reports on the stocks that they purchased. An outline of content will be provided to each student.
Week Sixteen
Excel formulas and function formulas will be introduced. Students will begin entering their stock market portfolios into Excel. Students will also learn to create graphs from Excel. Reinforcement of math skills and keyboarding skills. Discussions on profit and loss statements.
Week Seventeen
Introduction to Power Point. Students will learn Power Point to create a final project on their Stock Market game. Students will begin to sell off stock and close accounts. Each team will determine their profit and loss. Reports will be generated from "The Stock Market Game.Org" on each team's performance.
Week Eighteen
Introduction to HTML and basic web design. Students will create a simple web page using basic HTML and Dreamweaver.
