CALIFORNIA'S BUSINESS EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR  2005-2006  &  2008-2009 MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL

My name is Geoffrey S. Aronsky and I teach middle school Business Education at La Mesa Junior High School in Santa Clarita California.  I have been teaching Business Education for the past twenty five years in New York, New Jersey and Florida before relocating to beautiful sunny California.  Many people ask me where I am from originally. I am proud to have been born in The Bronx New York and attended P.S. 86 on Reservoir Avenue. My junior high school years were spent in the Bergenfield Public Schools and I completed high school at Paramus High School in Paramus New Jersey.

I began teaching long before the days of computers and hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck New Jersey.  Over the years, I have taken various Business and Computer related courses at many colleges on the east coast.  I am especially proud that I am fully Microsoft Certified in Office Suites.

Before returning to teaching full-time, I was a customer service supervisor, trainer, computer programmer and course developer for BellSouth in Fort Lauderdale and Orlando which is now AT&T.  My experience in the corporate world has made me a better teacher. I now know first hand what is expected of our students today to be successful in the real world.

During 1994-2003, I was a Business Education teacher on the Adult and Middle School levels with the Broward County (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) Public Schools.  I had the opportunity to open a brand new middle school and start the Business Education program which is still running today.  Student organizations are a big part of Business Education. I sponsored the very first middle school chapter of (BPA) Business Professionals of America. We won first place in many events during my tenure and competed against many high schools in the state of Florida.

Over the years, I have also had to opportunity to edit many Business Education textbooks for various publishers around the country.  This has given my students and I first hand knowledge and experience of new software before its release to the public.

Since relocating to California, I have found students very eager to learn and explore new ideas.  I have started a very successful Business Math program at La Mesa which also involves the students playing The Stock Market GameStudents have the opportunity to buy and sell stock as they would in real life, while reinforcing math, reading, social studies, science and computer skills. These skills are aligned to the California State Standards in English, Math (including Algebra I), Reading, Social Studies, Business Education and the Federal SCANS standards. I am proud of the students at La Mesa because for the past three years our teams have placed in the top ten in California!

I am a member of BESAC (Business Education State Advisory Committee), CBEA California Business Education Association  which I am the former Southern Regional President.  I have a deep passion for Business Education and want our course offerings grow and expand to all grade levels. Because of this passion, I am very active with many of our state legislators to help put Business Education in the forefront!   I was honored in 2005 & 2008 by being named CALIFORNIA'S BUSINESS EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL BY CBEA!
